Sriracha Mayo

If you know anything about me, it’s that I absolutely adore sauces and I’d be hard-pressed to nail down one that’s my favorite. But this spicy Sriracha mayo definitely makes it to the top of my list.

I can get down with pretty much any spicy mayo recipe — the creaminess and the heat will always have my heart. But this homemade Sriracha mayo recipe is hands-down one of the best ways to elevate nearly any dish.

With minimal prep time and all of the flavor of the spicy Sriracha we all love, in addition to a few twists that add even more layers of deliciousness, I guarantee this is a recipe you’ll be putting on repeat.

What is Sriracha Mayo?

Typical Sriracha mayo is just a mix of the spicy sauce with standard mayo. But this is a kicked-up version that adds layers of flavor.

We add fresh lemon juice to give a citrusy contrast to the rich mayonnaise and spiciness of the Sriracha. Plus, a drizzle of honey gives it a sweetness that takes it to the next level.

What Makes This Sriracha Mayo Special?

You can find Sriracha-infused mayo recipes easily, but this one is extra special.

  • Full of flavor. Most recipes for this style of sauce just blend the mayo and Sriracha. That’s tasty, but this one is a bit more elevated with the simplest of ingredients.
  • So simple. Even though this sauce has a flavor that’s off the charts, it’s incredibly easy to make — it comes together in just a minute or two.
  • Easily adaptable. You can change up this recipe to meet any palate preference and it will be just as amazing!

Ingredients

You couldn’t ask for a more simple list of ingredients for such a flavorful sauce.

  • Mayonnaise – Mayo is the base of this sauce and gives it its signature creaminess. You can buy the mayonnaise brand that you prefer, but I love to just make homemade mayonnaise — it’s so easy!
  • Sriracha – Sriracha chili sauce sauce adds the necessary kick of spiciness.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice – Citrus brightens up the sauce and gives it the perfect balance.
  • Honey – Just a touch of sweetness makes this sauce shine.
  • Ground White Pepper – I love using white pepper for its floral flavor and because it doesn’t add flecks of darkness to the sauce. Feel free to use black pepper instead if it’s what you have on hand.
  • Coarse Kosher Salt – Salt brings out the flavors of the other ingredients and gives this sauce the perfect balance.

Variations

This super easy sauce is the best canvas for creativity. We use the most simple ingredients, but you can add, swap, or modify to your heart’s content!

  • Garlic – Add a minced garlic clove or garlic powder for an extra punch of flavor.
  • Sweetness – Increase the amount of honey for a sweeter flavor.
  • Asian Flavors – Substitute the honey with sweet chili sauce and add a splash of rice vinegar for a tangy Asian-inspired sauce.
  • Avocado – Blend avocado into the mayonnaise base for a creamier texture and subtle avocado flavor.
  • Herbs – Mix in chopped fresh herbs like cilantro, parsley, or chives for a fresh herbal note.
  • Citrus – Add more citrus flavor by adding grated zest from the lemon. Or, switch up the profile with other citrus fruits like grapefruit or lime juice.
  • Smokiness – Replace the Sriracha with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for a smoky, spicy twist. Or add a touch of liquid smoke or smoked paprika.
  • Mustard – Substitute some of the mayonnaise with Dijon or whole grain mustard for a tangy kick.
  • Maple – Swap the honey for maple syrup for a slightly different sweetness and depth of flavor.
  • Heat – If you’re struggling to find the popular condiment that is Sriracha sauce you can substitute another hot sauce. It may not taste exactly the same but it will have a somewhat similar flavor profile. You can also adjust the spice level by reducing the amount of Sriracha or adding ingredients like cayenne pepper powder or crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Vegan – Want to make a vegan version? It’s simple! Just use vegan mayo instead.

What To Serve With Sriracha Mayo?

You can use Sriracha mayo with nearly any savory dish! Use it as a dipping sauce for chicken tenders, dumplings, french fries, or sweet potato fries. Or dip vegetables or homemade sushi rolls into it!

You can also slather it on sandwiches and burgers or fish tacos, spoon it over proteins like chicken, beef, seafood, or pork, or slather your chicken with it before breading when you make fried chicken. Or add it to rice bowls, like this Asian Chicken Rice Bowl, or any style of potatoes, or drizzle it over salads and Korean style pork mince, too!

It’s also great with Mexican inspired food like chipotle chicken bowls or Air Fryer frozen jalapeno poppers.

Storage and Freezing

Chances are good that you’re not going to have leftovers of this savory and slightly sweet sauce! But if you do, just stash it in the fridge and use it throughout the week.

You can easily make a big batch of this mayo ahead of time and store it until you need it — just be sure to keep it in an airtight container and refrigerate when you’re not serving it.

How to Store Sriracha Mayo

If you’re making this with homemade mayo, store it for up to 4 days. If made with store-bought mayo, it may last a little longer.

Can I Freeze This Sriracha Mayo?

We don’t recommend freezing mayonnaise-based sauces because their texture can change when thawed.

Sriracha mayonnaise is often a blend of Sriracha and mayo but this recipe is amped up with flavors of citrus and sweet honey.

These two types of mayo are not necessarily the same. While Sriracha mayo is spicy, there are other ingredients that can be used to spice up mayo that may not have the same flavor profile.
